I recently just found Amigurumi. I am really eager to learn how to do it, but after looking all over on the internet can not find a free pattern. I was wondering if there were any good explanatory books that you have tried and liked or disliked. I live near a Borders so I would love if your suggestions are available there. I also live near a Target. Any links would be helpful and so would any advice about your experiences with Amigurumi. Thank you so much! 10 points for best answer!

The great thing about Amigurami is that it is a starting off point. Once you learn the basics, you can do ANYTHING with it. It is so much fun and opens up so many possibilities. I have a great website with so many free patterns.

It’s lionbrand.com, but this link should get you started. It’s a great site, it’s free, and when you sign up, they send you e-mails with fun new patterns about once a week. You’ll have to look around a little for the amigurami, but there are plenty of patterns there. I have NO doubt you will find something there that you like. Have fun! That’s the whole point! I love amigurami!

How do I make those cute little crocheted stuffed animals? Do you know of any websites that offer free patterns to make them, or a book I can find in a local bookstore? Any help is much appreciated! :)

Here's a good article:

Also, go to www.craftster.org and go down to the crochet forum. There's usually something about amigurumi there.

Does anyone know were I can find scans of Japanese Amigurumi patterns on the net? I came across some a few weeks ago but dummy me didn’t save the link and now I cant find them!I think the site was also in Japanese but i am not 100% sure. I am looking for Japanese Amigurumi Crochet chart patterns, they do not need to be translated!

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small animals or toys, you can find out more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amigurumi

There are lots on the web for free. Some are better than others. Once you find some patterns you like, you can use the techniques to design your own using the shapes.

I have an amigurumi book, but it's lacking in one area. I want to do a dog, specifically, my dog. She's a black and tan shiba inu- and I know there's an amigurumi shiba inu pattern on the internet. I've seen it, but I want one more floppy and cute! If anyone knows any amigurumi doggy doll patterns, please tell me! Or- almost even better- a website or book that gives you the basics to make your own!
(The book I have is the "Happy Crochet Super Cute" one with the cat, bunny, monkey, and I can't quite tell what the last one is.)

There 7 dog patterns on this site. Hope you find one that works for you.

Is it possible to convert a crochet pattern into a knitted pattern?

May 142009

Posted in amigurumi | 5 Comments »

ive recently fallen in love with the a japanese style of doll called amigurumi,. the problem is these pattern are mostly crochet pattern but i don't crochet but i do knit. i was wondering if anyone knew how difficlt it was to convert a crochet pattern into a knitted one and if its even possible to do so.
Thanks

your better off learning how to crochet. there is a reason why they have that pattern in crochet.

crochet is more of an open weave and the stitches give the piece a certain texture that you cant get with knitting.

knitting is more of an close weave with the piece able to get finer details that you can only get with knitting.

heres a link that shows you the basics of crochet.

What would you call a 'Japanese-style' inspired miniature bear?

May 132009

Posted in amigurumi | 3 Comments »

I've seen miniature bear artists call their Japanese inspired bears 'anime'. Now I am unsure if this is the right description for them as it means an animation or cartoon. I know of the word 'amigurumi' also but this is a label for bears that are crocheted, which mine are not.

Any ideas?

The little crocheted bears are often called amigurumi because crocheting little animals is a fad in Japan right now.

If your bears are japanese inspired, you can just call them plushies, dolls, or anime bears. I have seen all these terms applied to those kinds of stuffed animals.

What are some cool artsy things that are relatively easy to make that I can sell on ETSY?

I decorate shoes with tattoo-style images, and I make Amigurumi, and can crochet knit, and I'm looking for a new source of income. I have a lot of vintage lace and ribbon as well as cute fabric. I do a lot of different things, but what are some handmade things that you think you might buy? Also, could you list some prices for the item you suggest?

Thanks a lot :)

Etsy is gaining a lot of popularity as time goes on, and recognition. Yeah sometimes people will copy your stuff, but when you find a unique item you can make, people won't be able to reproduce it, especially if you have one-of-a-kind fabrics or other materials. There are hundreds of stitch markers available, for example, but one kind will stand out to a certain person.
As the ofirst answerer said, patterns can be a good way to make money as long as you are able to write instructions well.
Etsy is probably not the place to sell a ton of items and make millions but if you have a blog or other places you can put your name out there, you could draw in some supplemental income.
Don't be afraid to try it!

Where can you buy custom made amigurumi dolls?

I would place an ad on craigslist and find someone who does this for fun in your area…I just found a library book on amigurumi and I made a teddy bear for my daughter and she was running around my in-laws house with it and visitors saw it and now I have an order of 12 party favors of a bunny bride and groom amigurumi for a wedding. Thank goodness I have til August since I'm just a beginner. So that's what I'd do, I'm pretty sure someone living near you knows how to make them. By the way, I'm in Cali, Bay Area, just in case you're here too… :)
