I found amazingly cute amigurumi patterns on the lionbrand website but I can't figure out where to buy the safety eyes. Could you just use black beads instead?

hardware stores, dept stores , places such as Walmart, home depot, Lowes…….

What is the foundation row in this Amigurumi pattern and how can you tell? ?

http://www.roxycraft.com/crochet_gabu.htm

For row 1 it tells you to chain two stitches. That will become the foundation, in which you will work the six stitches . The six stitches will form the first row, in a circle, when you join the last stitch to the first. Then you will chain up to the next row – row two.

you can use it for the top or bottom – depending on which one you like best. –Especially since you will have to go back and do the ears with a separate piece of yarn.

The main thing is to remember to try and keep your tension pretty firm. IF it is too loose then the stuffing will show between the stitches. If your first try needs to be a bit firmer — use a smaller hook size witht he same yarn, or use a thicker yarn with the same hook you used last time. That should give a firmer, more solid fabric for your amigarumi friend.

PS – you will begin to learn different ways that folks write their patterns from practice. The more you do different patterns, the better you will get at being able to tell what the person considered the foundation row. After a while you will pretty much have seen all the basic ways of doing things.

amigurumi…can you make it by loom knitting?

i want to make some amigurumi as a gift and i know how to loom knit, but don't know how to knit knit. is there any way to make amigurumi with a loom? and what kind? cause i can't find any sites

If it is a flat loom I would say yes. You could knit the item flat and seam it up the side using the Mattress stitch. (I've included two links with instructions, the second of which has a video halfway down the page under Finishing / Seaming)

I'm not sure about using the circular looms, I think the stitches would be pulled too tight if you needed to use shaping decreases. It never hurts to try though, it's just yarn and you can rip it out if it doesn't work, heh.

Cute beginner Amigurumi patterns?

I’ve only been crocheting for a few weeks now, but I can do simple Amigurumi’s. Anything cute will do, and it doesn’t have to be limited to Amigurumi’s really; finger puppets, iPod cozies, ornaments, keychains…

Here’s a bunch of patterns for toys and amigurumi. There’s also a million other patterns, too.

Enlarging Amigurumi Patterns?

May 22009

Posted in amigurumi | 2 Comments »

I have noticed that many Amigurumi patterns on the internet turn out quite small (usually a couple of inches high), so i was wondering if there is any way of enlarging the patterns they give you. Could I do every step twice? I'm relatively new at this so a little unsure!
Many thanks!

No, don't do every step twice…your project will be twice as tall as it should be but only as wide as the original. Instead, try to figure out multiples…if a crochet pattern says to chain 2 then do 6 sc in the second chain from hook, then to do (2 sc in the next sc and then 1 sc) to repeat around for a total of 9 sc try to instead chain 2 then do 8, 10 or 12 sc in the second chain from hook, then do (2 sc in the next sc and then 1 sc) around for a total of 12, 15 or 18 respectively. Makes you think a little, but your piece will turn out larger! I find it's best to write my "new" instructions beside the originals in pencil before I start so I don't have to keep stopping and figuring out the multiples.

Amigurumi spiral crochet?

May 12009

Posted in amigurumi | 2 Comments »

Hello,

I am trying to make Amigurumi. I can crochet in rounds, (or at least i think i can) but instead of a sphere, i always get a tube instead. Could anyone tell me what it is I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!
I would like to add that i am aware of how to crochet a tube. It's crocheting a ball that i'm having difficulty with. Do i need to increase stitches, or something?

to crochet a ball you need to increase. first round chain 2, make 5 single crochet into the second chain from the hook.
put a little marker, like a piece of contrasting yarn in the last stitch to keep track of your rounds because the key with
Amiguri is it continues in a spiral, you don't finish each round.
next round, make 2 single crochet in each single crochet, so you have 10 crochet at the end of the round, mark the end of the round.
the next round you crochet 2 single crochet into the first stitch, 1 single crochet in the next, 2 in the next, 1 in the next so you have 15 single crochets (sc) at the end.
next round, 2 single crochet in the next, then 1 in the next, 1 in the next, then 2 in the next, around until you have 20 crochet.
once you have the size circle you want, just crochet even, on stitch in every stitch, to work down the body of your critter.
I put a link to a wicked cute penguin below, so you can get a sense of the pattern.
